On a very hot summer morning, I visited this half-French half-German family of three. Their four months old daughter had just awoken from the nap and was ready to play and cuddle and to explore. This stage is a lovely one to photograph, as the babies have just outgrown the newborn phase, are more awake and love to interact with mom & dad. As most of the families I photograph, this family had never been visited by a photographer before, yet they just they felt very natural in front of the camera and even forgot about my presence for a wee bit (which is actually the best thing that can happen to a family photographer). That said, all my sessions are a mix of documentary photos (going with the flow and see what happens, as you can never predict a baby’s behavior or mood) and lifestyle shots (with giving a little bit of direction). We even managed to squeeze in a little walk around the block and ended the session outside.
